The SY whirlwind

Wow, it has been a while. For some reason I thought summer would be an easy ride, and I'd update this after China, but not so much. While my internship wasn't as demanding as others, I co-chaired Orientation for the class of 2013, and was trying to keep up as the co-president of the high tech club (+ tried to explore Philly & was pretty much gone every weekend to NYC or elsewhere!) ....so needless to say I kept myself busy. What did you expect?

I will say, last year's SY lied to us! Maybe not to scare us? They said SY was supposed to be easier... Else, it's also that I've done this to myself, which is probably closer to the real situation.
Fall 1 hits like a freight train. Our resumes were due in August (yes, before internships were over) and recruiting began as soon as we got back. I have 4 interviews next week, which is also the last week of the term, when things get crazy. Residing over the High Tech club has definitely taken more out of me than expected. As is being a COLE Leadership Fellow, and being VP for FuquaVision. And being a buddy to 4 FY's. And I'm taking 3 classes instead of 2, but that's because I'm trying to squeeze in an HSM certificate. And while my P4E team decided not to continue with the courses due to time constraints, we are still meeting weekly to keep the project/company going.

*PHEW*!

While it's been stressful and I'm now sleeping probably about 4 hrs a night (+1 night of super catch up!), it's sad that this is only 2 years. I wish it was 3, not just for the fun, but also for all the different opportunities you just can't do in 2! It would have been great to try my hand at mentored study, or the handful of classes I won't be able to fit in. I AM going to study abroad, but that was a hard decision since our time here is already so short...!
Along the way, I've also checked off a ton of items off my bucket list since last summer: cross country road trip, party bus, speed dating, movie alone, concert alone, african safari, pet baby lion cubs & a cheeta, held a baby panda, rafted grade 5 rapids, and made it to the Ben & Jerry's factory!

Anyway, as I'm doing interview prep this weekend, I was cleaning out some of my papers and found some notes from my orientation in Aug 2010.....
From Alison Levine: "Storms are always temporary"
From Joe LeBoeuf: "why are you here? who are you in this moment? who do you want to be?"
From me, when prompted to write 3 goals on August 1st:
1) Don't do something that I don't enjoy even though everyone else is
2) Join an activity in which I am an leader and can leave a lasting legacy
3) Find out what I can enjoy doing for the long term after Fuqua

....back to interview prep!
