free T-shirt count = 12

...and counting. I'm serious. Since being admitted, here's everything I now own . I could go almost 2 weeks ignoring my normal clothes and opt for these! And to note, these are from events I legitimately attended (e.g. Symposiums); there's no reason to grab extra shirts, there are so many!

• Blue Devil Weekend
• Section 4 (orientation)
• Day in Durham
• Duke Start-up Challenge ('09 old)
• General Management Club
• Beyond CPG (Marketing)
• High Tech Club
• Campout
• Duke Start-up Challenge (white/orange)
• Duke Start-up Challenge(blue)
• Net Impact Conference volunteer
• Health Care Club

...plus Fuqua Vision. Funny enough, I had to pay for that.

Speaking of which, if curious, this is the video I produced last term...   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XB2vQuJscRM

That said, the weeks are going by faster and faster. We've had presentations, midterms/reviews, another Around the World dinner, Mock Interviews (just starting), informational interviews/reaching out, and my Program for Enrepreneurs team made it to the finals of an elevator Pitch competition!

Presentations!
My team now has a big Industry Analysis presentation under our belts, but what do we have to look forward to? A paper for that presentation (for Strategy class, whereas the presentation was for Management Communications), as well as a longer company analysis report - this time complete with a presentation for both classes! We originally had Nintendo, which I was excited about, but majority ruled and we got Caterpillar...trying to get excited about the construction industry. Our "so what?" - it is the story of the economy! It built the roads you drive on and the place where you sleep! it's the reason for the food you're eating!
....Oh, and for P4E, there is also a report and presentation due concerning an "opportunity assessment" of our business idea. This is going to be one crazy end of term with all these deliverables!

Midterms/reviews
Yep, already had our marketing midterm! It's fast!
Finance is this week, which is scaring all of us - there's nothing but 50% midterm and 50% fina (no online quizzes, no team cases, no class participation!). That's the reason why, at the unearthly hour of 8:30am on a Saturday, I went to a finance review *sigh* and plan to keep that up...

Around the world dinner - back by popular demand, our MBA Association organized another dinner. It's been a good way to meet other FY's and especially SY's - you get assigned to a random apt as a guest, or you get to host a random bunch of people if you cook (reimbursed). It's easy to hang with people you know; but there's so many more people to get to know!

Career stuff...
Mock Interviews - this past week we had to schedule time with our Career Fellows for some practice. The good news? I'm told I'm enthusiastic and show a great passion for what I want to do. The bad? too much context/too much detail (too long; although engaging...)
Informational interviews/reaching out - doing my best to kick off an off-campus search. We were giving an interesting system to target companies, and then start reaching out through the alumni database and LinkedIn. Have 3 informationals this week, and crossing fingers to get some more set up!

Duke Start-up Challenge
Duke has a lot of entrepreneurial things going on. Outside of P4E, there's a club that just runs competitions. In the fall, it's their 1-min pitch competition. We didn't win, and with 5 members we had our founder speak, but it was still a great experience!

random fact: I now own a blue vuvuzuela (given out during the competition =)

Admissions highlight of the week - took some prospective students to the first half of Marketing today. In Strategy, the professor has them dance. In some classes, they're ignored. For Marketing, he told them they had a choice - embarrassing story, sing, or dance. We got one of each...but the dance was the best part. The girl was from Brazil and said she'd dance if the professor danced with her - and he agreed! We had to promise not to tape it, and he stepped outside of the class recording view. She basically taught him a samba step, side by side, for 1 min. It was priceless!!
